Problem: Heater relay failure—relay not energizing when commanded by control board
How to Fix Dryer Error
- Disconnect power and remove rear panel.
- Locate main control board WPW10111608 and identify heater relay terminals.
- Disconnect power cord and set multimeter to continuity mode.
- Test relay contacts—should show open circuit when de-energized.
- Restore power briefly (CAUTION) and start heat cycle—relay should click and show continuity across output terminals. No click indicates failed relay coil.
- Test relay coil resistance (typically 80-150 ohms)—infinite resistance confirms open coil.
- Inspect board around relay for burnt traces or overheating damage.
- Control board cannot be repaired—replace entire WPW10111608 assembly.
- Before installation, verify heating element is not grounded (test continuity between element terminals and metal housing—should show open circuit). Grounded element can damage new relay.
- After replacement, verify 240V at heating element terminals during heat cycle and monitor exhaust temperature (135-155°F typical).
Still Not Working?
If the replacement part didn’t fix the issue, you may have a wiring problem or main board failure.
