How to Fix E42 Error (Step-by-Step)
- Unplug the washer from the power outlet and confirm the error stays cleared during a full test cycle.
- Open the washer door. Use a spring-expansion tool or pliers to expand and remove the outer wire clamp holding the rubber door boot (bellows) to the front panel.
- Peel the door boot away from the front panel in the area of the door lock assembly.
- Remove the screws that secure the door lock assembly to the washer’s frame.
- Reach inside and disconnect the wire harness from the old door lock assembly.
- Connect the wire harness to the new assembly, then mount the new assembly to the frame with the screws.
- Re-seat the rubber door boot and secure it with the wire clamp before plugging the washer in.
- Turn the appliance off, wait about 2 minutes, then turn it back on.
