How to Fix LG Dryer Error E05

Problem: Heater Thermistor Circuit Short. The sensor is reading 0 Ohms.

Unplug the dryer.
Disconnect the thermistor plug.
If the error clears on the display (or changes to Open error), the wiring is good and the sensor is bad.
Replace the thermistor.

If the replacement part didn’t fix the issue, you may have a wiring problem or main board failure.

Problem: Motor Relay Failure. The motor relay on the main board is stuck.

Unplug the dryer.
Tap the relay on the main board lightly (temporary check).
If the drum rotates immediately upon plugging in without pressing start, the relay is fused.
Replace the main control board.

If the replacement part didn’t fix the issue, you may have a wiring problem or main board failure.

Problem: Thermistor Error. Older syntax for tE1.

Unplug the dryer.
Remove the top and front panel (or rear panel on some models) to access the blower housing.
Locate the thermistor (small white sensor with 2 wires).
Measure resistance with a multimeter; at room temperature (70°F), it should read approximately 10k Ohms.
If the reading is infinite (open) or zero (shorted), replace the thermistor.

If the replacement part didn’t fix the issue, you may have a wiring problem or main board failure.

Problem: Thermistor Error. Older syntax for tE2.

Ensure the room temperature is above 45°F.
Unplug the dryer and remove the panel covering the heating duct.
Locate the secondary thermistor.
Unplug the connector and test resistance (should be approx 10k Ohms at room temp).
If resistance is out of range, replace the thermistor.

If the replacement part didn’t fix the issue, you may have a wiring problem or main board failure.

Problem: Motor Error. The motor is not turning or the belt is broken (on models with belt detection).

Open the door and try to spin the drum by hand. If it spins very freely, the belt is broken.
If the belt is good, unplug the dryer and check the thermal fuse (a blown fuse cuts power to the motor on some models).
Test the motor start switch (centrifugal switch).
Replace the motor if windings are open.

If the replacement part didn’t fix the issue, you may have a wiring problem or main board failure.

Problem: Door Open. Older syntax for dE.

Open the door and inspect the latch assembly for physical damage.
Locate the door switch plunger.
Press the plunger manually while starting the dryer; if it starts, the door hinge is sagging.
If it does not start, unplug the dryer and remove the top panel/front panel to access the switch.
Test the switch for continuity with a multimeter.
Replace the switch if it shows no continuity when pressed.

If the replacement part didn’t fix the issue, you may have a wiring problem or main board failure.

Problem: Control Board Overheat. The main PCB detects high internal temperature.

Unplug the dryer.
Check for lint accumulation around the control board area.
Ensure the dryer is not in an extremely hot environment.
If the area is clean and cool, the board thermal sensor is defective. Replace the PCB.
