⚠️ Safety Warning: Appliance repair involves electricity, gas, and moving parts. Always disconnect power before working on any appliance.
Error Code: Dryer Difficulty: Moderate
Problem: Diagnostic code: Motor sensor circuit failure—failed tachometer or Hall effect sensor
How to Fix Dryer Error
- Enter diagnostic mode and run motor speed test—observe if RPM reading displays correctly or shows error.
- Unplug dryer and remove rear panel to access motor WPW
- Locate tachometer/Hall sensor mounted on motor end bell (typically 2-3 wire harness).
- Disconnect sensor harness and inspect for damage or corrosion.
- Test sensor output per manufacturer specifications (typically requires oscilloscope to verify pulse signal while manually rotating motor shaft).
- If sensor output absent or erratic, motor assembly must be replaced—sensor is integrated into motor housing and not serviceable separately.
- Remove motor mounting bolts and belt tensioner to extract motor assembly.
- Transfer blower wheel to new motor WPW10438706 if not included—ensure setscrew tightens securely on shaft flat.
- Reinstall motor with proper belt tension (idler pulley should deflect 1/2-3/4 inch when pressed).
- Exit diagnostic mode and run test cycle—verify motor reaches proper RPM and maintains speed under load.
