How to Fix D9 ILLUMINATED Error (Step-by-Step)

Unplug the refrigerator from the wall outlet to ensure safety.
Empty the freezer compartment of all food and shelves and confirm the error stays cleared during a full test cycle.
Locate and remove the screws holding the interior back panel of the freezer.
Carefully detach the panel to expose the evaporator coils and the old defrost sensor, which is a small probe clipped to the coils.
Disconnect the wire harness of the old sensor and unclip it from the coil.
Clip the new sensor (Part WPW10384183) in the exact same position and reconnect its wire harness.
Reinstall the back panel, shelves, and plug the refrigerator back in.
Turn the appliance off, wait about 2 minutes, then turn it back on.
