Primary coil should read 300-600 ohms; secondary 1000-1500 ohms. Readings below 200 ohms indicate shorted coil.
Inspect lock mechanism for binding that could cause solenoid to stall and overheat.
Check lock strike plate alignment – misalignment forces solenoid to work harder.
Verify wiring harness isn’t shorted to ground (measure resistance between each wire and chassis ground – should be infinite).
