⚠️ Safety Warning: Appliance repair involves electricity, gas, and moving parts. Always disconnect power before working on any appliance.
Error Code: Dryer Difficulty: Moderate
Problem: Missing L2 leg of 240V power supply—dryer runs but heater won’t operate
How to Fix Dryer Error
- Disconnect power at circuit breaker.
- Remove rear panel to access power cord terminal block.
- Restore power and carefully measure voltage at terminal block: L1 to Neutral = 120V, L2 to Neutral = 120V, L1 to L2 = 240V.
- If L1-L2 reads 120V instead of 240V, L2 leg is missing—check circuit breaker for partial trip (one pole tripped while other remains on). Reset breaker fully OFF then ON.
- If breaker reset doesn’t restore 240V, test voltage directly at breaker output terminals—call electrician if voltage missing at breaker (indicates panel wiring fault).
- If voltage correct at terminal block but not reaching heater, test thermal fuse WP3392519 on blower housing for continuity—replace if open (common failure when L2 leg intermittently missing causes motor to overheat).
- Check high-limit thermostat WP3392914 for continuity—replace if open.
- Inspect wiring between terminal block and heater for loose connections or burnt terminals—repair as needed.
- After repair, verify 240V at heating element terminals during heat cycle.
- Monitor exhaust temperature to confirm proper heating operation—should reach 135-155°F on cotton setting.
