Problem: Evaporator sensor fault – temperature sensor on evaporator coil failed
How to Fix Refrigerator Error
- Unplug refrigerator and remove all food from freezer compartment.
- Remove rear wall panel in freezer to access evaporator assembly.
- Locate evaporator temperature sensor (small white probe clipped to evaporator tubing near coils).
- Disconnect sensor connector (typically 2-wire white connector).
- Measure resistance at room temperature (77°F/25°C): should read 5kΩ ±5%.
- Place sensor tip in ice water (32°F/0°C) – resistance should increase to approximately 15kΩ.
- If resistance is infinite (open circuit) or zero (shorted), replace sensor WPW
- Verify sensor clip is securely attached to evaporator tubing (loose mounting causes inaccurate readings).
- Inspect wiring harness for damage near evaporator fan where vibration occurs.
- After replacement, monitor defrost cycle operation – should activate when evaporator reaches proper temperature (-10°F to -20°F).
Still Not Working?
If the replacement part didn’t fix the issue, you may have a wiring problem or main board failure.
