Error Code: Refrigerator Difficulty: Moderate
Problem: Refrigerator compartment temperature sensor fault – out of range reading
How to Fix Refrigerator Error
- Unplug refrigerator and remove all food from fresh food compartment.
- Locate temperature sensor behind rear wall panel in refrigerator section (typically near top center).
- Remove shelves and unscrew rear wall panel to access sensor wiring harness.
- Disconnect sensor connector and measure resistance with multimeter at room temperature (77°F/25°C): should read 5kΩ ±5%.
- Place sensor in glass of ice water (32°F/0°C) – resistance should increase to approximately 15kΩ.
- Place sensor in warm water (100°F/38°C) – resistance should decrease to approximately
- 5kΩ.
- If resistance readings are infinite, zero, or don’t change with temperature, replace sensor WPW
- Inspect wiring harness between sensor and control board for damage, rodent chewing, or pinched wires near hinge areas.
- Verify connector pins aren’t corroded or bent.
- After replacement, reinstall panel and verify temperature display stabilizes within 1 hour of operation.
