⚠️ Safety Warning: Appliance repair involves electricity, gas, and moving parts. Always disconnect power before working on any appliance.
Error Code: Refrigerator Difficulty: Moderate
Problem: Heater sensor fault – defrost heater temperature monitoring failure
How to Fix Refrigerator Error
- Unplug refrigerator and remove rear wall panel in freezer compartment.
- Locate defrost heater assembly beneath evaporator coils.
- Some models have integrated temperature sensor in heater circuit – test heater resistance (20-40 ohms).
- If heater tests open circuit, replace entire defrost heater assembly WPW
- On models with separate heater limit thermostat, test thermostat continuity when cold (<50°F) - should read 0 ohms.
- Warm thermostat to 140°F using heat gun – should open circuit (infinite resistance).
- If thermostat doesn’t open at correct temperature, replace defrost thermostat WPW
- Inspect wiring harness between heater circuit and control board for damage near heat source.
- Verify proper mounting of thermostat on evaporator tubing (must make solid thermal contact).
- After repair, initiate manual defrost cycle and verify heater deactivates when evaporator reaches 50°F.
