Problem: Freezer fan overcurrent fault – excessive current draw detected
How to Fix Refrigerator Error
- Unplug refrigerator immediately – overcurrent can damage control board fan drivers.
- Remove rear wall panel in freezer compartment to access evaporator fan.
- Manually spin fan blade – check for binding indicating seized bearings or ice obstruction.
- Inspect fan blade for cracks or deformation causing imbalance and excessive current draw.
- Disconnect fan wiring harness and measure resistance across motor terminals (should read 50-150 ohms).
- Resistance below 30 ohms indicates shorted windings requiring motor replacement.
- Check for short circuits between motor terminals and ground (should be infinite resistance).
- Inspect wiring harness for damaged insulation causing intermittent shorts.
- If motor resistance is low or shows shorts to ground, replace evaporator fan motor WPW
- After replacement, monitor fan current draw during operation (should not exceed
- 5 amps for 12V fans or
- 3 amps for 120V fans).
