Problem: Freezer defrost system failure; heater open circuit, thermostat fault, or control board issue preventing defrost cycle
How to Fix Refrigerator Error
- Unplug refrigerator from electrical power. Allow 30 minutes for components to reach room temperature.
- Remove freezer interior panels and evaporator cover to access defrost heater and thermostat.
- Disconnect wiring harness from defrost heater terminals. Label connections.
- Test defrost heater resistance with multimeter: proper reading 20-50Ω. Infinite = open heater.
- Test defrost thermostat continuity: should be CLOSED when cold (below 40°F), OPEN when warm.
- Inspect heater element for visible breaks, burns, or damage. Check thermostat for physical damage.
- If heater is open or thermostat is faulty: remove mounting clips securing components to evaporator.
- Extract old defrost heater assembly. Clean evaporator mounting surface.
- Install new defrost heater assembly using OEM part DA47-00234A. Secure with mounting clips.
- Reconnect wiring harness. Reassemble evaporator cover and panels. Restore power and monitor defrost cycle to ensure ice melts completely and evaporator returns to normal operation.
