Problem: Evaporator Fan Motor Failure

How to Fix SY EF Error (Step-by-Step)

1. Unplug the refrigerator from power and empty all contents and shelves from the freezer section.
2. Locate the interior panel at the back of the freezer. Remove the screws or release the clips holding it in place.
3. Carefully remove the panel. It may be stuck with ice, so you may need to gently pry it loose. Behind it, you will see the evaporator fan.
4. Disconnect the wire harness plugged into the fan motor. Remove the screws that mount the motor to its housing.
5. Remove the old motor. You may need to carefully pull the fan blade off the old motor shaft and push it onto the new motor’s shaft.
6. Install the new evaporator fan motor (Part #241509402 or #5303918549), secure it with its screws, and reconnect the wire harness.
7. Reinstall the rear freezer panel, put the shelves back, and plug the refrigerator in. The code will clear as the fan begins to operate.
8. Turn the appliance off, wait about 2 minutes, then turn it back on.
