Error Code: SY EF Difficulty: Hard
Problem: Evaporator Fan Motor Failure
How to Fix SY EF Error (Step-by-Step)
- Unplug the refrigerator from power and empty all contents and shelves from the freezer section.
- Locate the interior panel at the back of the freezer. Remove the screws or release the clips holding it in place.
- Carefully remove the panel. It may be stuck with ice, so you may need to gently pry it loose. Behind it, you will see the evaporator fan.
- Disconnect the wire harness plugged into the fan motor. Remove the screws that mount the motor to its housing.
- Remove the old motor. You may need to carefully pull the fan blade off the old motor shaft and push it onto the new motor’s shaft.
- Install the new evaporator fan motor (Part #241509402 or #5303918549), secure it with its screws, and reconnect the wire harness.
- Reinstall the rear freezer panel, put the shelves back, and plug the refrigerator in. The code will clear as the fan begins to operate.
- Turn the appliance off, wait about 2 minutes, then turn it back on.
