Error Code: E4 Difficulty: Hard
Problem: Freezer thermistor (temperature sensor) is shorted.
How to Fix E4 Error (Step-by-Step)
- Unplug the refrigerator from the wall and empty the freezer compartment completely.
- Remove all shelves, the ice maker, and the interior rear panel of the freezer to expose the evaporator assembly.
- If the coils are encased in ice, use a hairdryer on a low setting to carefully melt the ice and get a clear view.
- Locate the defrost heater. It is typically a glass tube or a metal-sheathed element at the bottom of the evaporator coils.
- Disconnect the two wire leads attached to the ends of the heater element. They usually pull off.
- Unclip the old heater from the evaporator coils and carefully remove it.
- Install the new heater by clipping it into the same position, then reconnect the wire leads securely.
- Reassemble the freezer interior and plug the refrigerator back in.
