How to Fix E49 Error (Step-by-Step)

  1. Unplug the washer from the power outlet and confirm the error stays cleared during a full test cycle.
  2. Open the door and first inspect the door strike and hinge for any signs of damage, looseness, or misalignment. Tighten any loose screws on the hinge.
  3. If the door alignment seems correct, the problem is likely the door lock assembly. Proceed to remove the outer spring clamp from the door boot seal.
  4. Peel back the rubber boot seal to access the screws for the door lock assembly.
  5. Remove the screws and pull the assembly out slightly and confirm the error stays cleared during a full test cycle.
  6. Disconnect the wire connector from the old lock and attach it to the new one.
  7. Reinstall the new lock assembly, reposition the boot seal, and secure it with the clamp before plugging the washer back in.
  8. Turn the appliance off, wait about 2 minutes, then turn it back on.
