How to Fix E20 Error (Step-by-Step)

  1. Safety First: Disconnect the washer from the power outlet and shut off both hot and cold water supply valves.
  2. Prepare for Water: Place towels and a shallow pan near the small access panel at the bottom front of the washer to catch residual water.
  3. Clean Pump Filter: Open the access panel. Slowly unscrew the large filter cap, allowing water to drain into the pan. Once drained, remove the filter completely and clean it of any lint, coins, or other debris. Also, check inside the filter housing for obstructions.
  4. Inspect Drain Hose: Pull the washer out to access the back. Check the entire length of the drain hose for any kinks or clogs. Disconnect it from the wall standpipe to ensure the standpipe itself is not blocked.
  5. Access and Inspect Pump: For a deeper inspection, remove the washer’s front or rear panel. Locate the drain pump (Part #137108000) and disconnect the hoses attached to it. Check the pump’s inlet and outlet ports for any blockages that were not caught by the filter.
  6. Check Pump Impeller: Look inside the pump and check the small impeller. If it is broken, jammed, or does not spin, the pump assembly needs to be replaced.
  7. Reassemble and Test: After clearing any obstructions or replacing the pump, securely reattach all hoses and panels. Reconnect power and water, then run a ‘Drain & Spin’ cycle to confirm the repair.
  8. Turn the appliance off, wait about 2 minutes, then turn it back on.
