⚠️ Safety Warning: Appliance repair involves electricity, gas, and moving parts. Always disconnect power before working on any appliance.
Error Code: E9 Difficulty: Moderate
Problem: The thermistor is open or shorted.
How to Fix E9 Error (Step-by-Step)
- For your safety, disconnect the refrigerator from its power source by unplugging it or switching off the circuit breaker.
- Locate the thermistor. It is typically found in the freezer section, clipped onto the evaporator coils or inside a plastic housing on the back or side wall.
- You will likely need to remove the back panel inside the freezer to access it. This usually involves removing several screws with a Phillips head screwdriver.
- Once you see the thermistor, carefully unplug its wire connector from the main harness. It is a small plastic clip.
- Unclip the old thermistor from its mounting point and remove it.
- Clip the new thermistor (part #5303918850) into the same position and plug its wire connector back into the harness.
- Re-install the interior freezer panel and any shelves you removed. Restore power to the refrigerator.
- Turn the appliance off, wait about 2 minutes, then turn it back on.
