How to Fix E42 Error (Step-by-Step)

Disconnect the refrigerator from the wall outlet to ensure your safety by cutting off all electrical power.
Locate the door lock assembly, which is typically found on the refrigerator body where the door latches shut.
Remove any plastic covers that may be hiding the lock mechanism and its mounting screws.
Unscrew the two screws holding the faulty lock in place.
Gently pull the lock out and carefully disconnect the single wire harness attached to it.
Connect the wire harness to the new door lock (Part No. 5304449038) and position the new lock.
Secure the new lock with the mounting screws and replace the cover. Restore power and test the door.
Turn the appliance off, wait about 2 minutes, then turn it back on.
