How to Fix C1 Error (Step-by-Step)

  1. Turn off the dishwasher by pressing the power button, then disconnect it completely from the electrical supply by unplugging it or shutting off the circuit breaker.
  2. Open the dishwasher door and pull out the lower dish rack to get clear access to the bottom of the tub.
  3. Locate and remove the lower spray arm. Most models allow you to unscrew this by hand, turning it counter-clockwise.
  4. Inspect the heating element, which is the circular metal tube at the bottom of the dishwasher. Look for signs of heavy white or grey scale buildup on its surface.
  5. To clean the system, pour two cups of white vinegar into the bottom of the empty dishwasher tub. Do not attempt to scrub the element, as this can cause damage.
  6. Re-install the lower spray arm and the dish rack. Restore power to the dishwasher and run a full, empty wash cycle on the hottest setting to allow the vinegar to dissolve the mineral buildup.
  7. Turn the appliance off, wait about 2 minutes, then turn it back on.
