Problem: Refrigerator defrost system failure; heater or thermostat fault in fresh food evaporator defrost circuit
How to Fix Refrigerator Error
- Unplug refrigerator from electrical power. Allow components to warm to room temperature.
- Remove fresh food compartment shelves and evaporator cover to access defrost components.
- Disconnect wiring harness from defrost heater terminals. Label all connections.
- Test defrost heater resistance: proper reading 20-50Ω. Infinite resistance indicates open heater.
- Test defrost thermostat continuity: should CLOSE when temperature drops below activation point.
- Inspect heater element for breaks, burns, or physical damage. Check thermostat housing for cracks.
- If heater or thermostat tests faulty: remove mounting clips or screws securing components.
- Extract old defrost heater assembly. Clean evaporator mounting surface thoroughly.
- Install new defrost heater assembly using OEM part DA47-00235A. Ensure proper contact with evaporator tubes.
- Reconnect wiring harness securely. Reassemble evaporator cover and interior components. Restore power and verify defrost cycle operates correctly with complete ice melt and temperature recovery.
