⚠️ Safety Warning: Appliance repair involves electricity, gas, and moving parts. Always disconnect power before working on any appliance.
Error Code: PO Difficulty: Easy
Problem: Power Outage. Indicates the refrigerator has lost and regained power, and the freezer temperature has risen to 18°F (-8°C) or higher.
How to Fix PO Error (Step-by-Step)
- Press the ‘Alarm Reset’ button on the control display to silence the alarm and clear the ‘PO’ code.
- This code indicates the freezer temperature rose above 18°F. You must immediately assess the safety of your frozen food.
- Open the freezer and visually inspect the contents. Look for signs of thawing, such as excessive ice crystals on packaging or pooled liquid at the bottom of the freezer.
- Check the texture of items like ice cream or frozen juices. If they are soft or melted, they should be discarded.
- As a food safety guideline, items that still feel refrigerator-cold and have ice crystals remaining can usually be safely refrozen, but their quality may be reduced.
- Discard any perishable items like meat, poultry, or fish that have fully thawed to prevent the risk of foodborne illness.
- Ensure the freezer door is fully closed and allow the unit 24 hours to stabilize at the correct temperature.
- Turn the appliance off, wait about 2 minutes, then turn it back on.
