How to Fix E6 Error (Step-by-Step)

  1. Unplug the refrigerator from the power outlet and confirm the error stays cleared during a full test cycle.
  2. Locate the door switch along the interior frame of the refrigerator or freezer door.
  3. Use a plastic putty knife or a flathead screwdriver to gently pry the old switch out of its housing.
  4. Disconnect the two wires attached to the back of the old switch.
  5. Connect the wires to the terminals on the new switch.
  6. Firmly press the new switch into the opening in the frame until it snaps securely into place.
  7. Plug the refrigerator back in and test the interior light by opening and closing the door.
  8. Turn the appliance off, wait about 2 minutes, then turn it back on.
