How to Fix E44 Error (Step-by-Step)

Disconnect the refrigerator from its power source and confirm the error stays cleared during a full test cycle.
Remove all shelves, drawers, and food from the fresh food compartment.
Locate and remove the screws holding the panel at the back of the compartment. This panel covers the evaporator fan.
Gently pull the panel away and disconnect any attached wiring to set it aside.
Identify the fresh food evaporator fan motor. Unplug its wire harness.
Remove the mounting screws holding the fan motor in place and take it out. You may need to transfer the fan blade to the new motor.
Install the new motor, reconnect the wiring, and reassemble the compartment panels and shelves before plugging the unit back in.
Turn the appliance off, wait about 2 minutes, then turn it back on.
