Problem: Refrigerator Compressor Error.
How to Fix E4 Error (Step-by-Step)
- Unplug the refrigerator from its power source to ensure safety.
- Pull the unit away from the wall and remove the lower rear access panel.
- Locate the compressor, which is the large, black, dome-shaped component.
- On the side of the compressor, find the start relay and overload protector, which are housed in a plastic cover. Remove the cover.
- Carefully pull the start relay straight off the terminals on the compressor.
- Plug the new start relay firmly onto the compressor terminals.
- Replace the plastic cover, screw the rear access panel back on, and plug the refrigerator in to see if the compressor starts.
- Turn the appliance off, wait about 2 minutes, then turn it back on.
