Problem: Multiple sensor failures.
How to Fix D7, D8, AND D9 ILLUMINATED Error (Step-by-Step)
- Completely disconnect the refrigerator from the wall outlet or circuit breaker.
- Begin by replacing both sensors. The refrigerator sensor (D8) is in the fresh food section behind a small plastic cover. The defrost sensor (D9) is in the freezer, clipped to the evaporator coils behind the rear interior panel.
- Access and replace the refrigerator sensor first by prying off its cover and swapping the part.
- Next, empty the freezer, remove the back panel, and replace the defrost sensor on the evaporator coil.
- After replacing both sensors, proceed to the main control board (D7) on the back of the refrigerator behind a service panel.
- Take a photo for reference, then carefully move all wire harnesses from the old board to the new one.
- Reinstall all panels, restore power, and monitor the refrigerator for normal operation.
- Turn the appliance off, wait about 2 minutes, then turn it back on.
