⚠️ Safety Warning: Appliance repair involves electricity, gas, and moving parts. Always disconnect power before working on any appliance.
Error Code: 3-1 Difficulty: Moderate
Problem: Open temperature sensing circuit.
How to Fix 3-1 Error (Step-by-Step)
- Disconnect Power: Turn off the power to the dishwasher at your home’s circuit breaker.
- Access the Sump Area: Remove the bottom dish rack. You may need to remove the lower spray arm and filter assembly to access the temperature sensor. The spray arm usually lifts off or is held by a central nut.
- Locate the Sensor: The temperature sensor (also part of the OWI assembly) is a small plastic component located in the sump area at the bottom of the dishwasher tub. It will have a wire harness connected to it.
- Remove the Old Sensor: From underneath the dishwasher, you may need to remove the lower access panel (kickplate). Locate the sensor from below, twist it (usually a quarter-turn counter-clockwise), and pull it out. Disconnect the wire harness.
- Install the New Sensor: Connect the wire harness to the new sensor. From inside the tub, insert the new sensor into the sump opening, ensuring the rubber gasket is properly seated. Twist it clockwise to lock it into place.
- Reassemble and Test: Reinstall the filter and spray arm inside the dishwasher, and reattach the lower access panel. Restore power and run a cycle to confirm the fix.
- Turn the appliance off, wait about 2 minutes, then turn it back on.
