Problem: Water filter not installed or not recognized
How to Fix Refrigerator Error
- Verify water filter is fully installed by rotating clockwise until it clicks into place.
- Remove filter and inspect O-rings for damage or missing seals – replace filter if damaged.
- Clean filter housing with damp cloth to remove mineral deposits preventing proper seating.
- Install new genuine Whirlpool water filter WPW10343838 (non-genuine filters may not trigger recognition switch).
- After installation, press and hold WATER FILTER button for 3 seconds to reset filter status light.
- Run 2 gallons of water through dispenser to purge air from system.
- If error persists with genuine filter properly installed, locate filter status switch inside housing (small plunger switch).
- Verify switch plunger depresses fully when filter is installed.
- Test switch continuity with multimeter – should change state when plunger depressed.
- If switch is faulty, replace entire filter housing assembly (requires water line disconnection and draining).
