⚠️ Safety Warning: Appliance repair involves electricity, gas, and moving parts. Always disconnect power before working on any appliance.
Error Code: HE1 Difficulty: Moderate
Problem: Thermistor detects temperature above 176°F (overheating)
How to Fix HE1 Error
- DISCONNECT POWER. Shut off the circuit breaker for the dishwasher.
- PULL OUT THE DISHWASHER. Disconnect the water and drain lines and pull the unit out from under the counter to access its components.
- TEST THE THERMISTOR. The thermistor (DD32-00005A) is usually located in the sump assembly at the bottom of the tub. Disconnect its wires and test its resistance with a multimeter. A faulty thermistor will show a reading outside the manufacturer’s specified range (often 8,500 to 126,000 ohms). [2, 3, 5]
- REPLACE THE THERMISTOR. If the thermistor is faulty, remove it from the sump and install the new one.
- IF THERMISTOR IS OK, REPLACE MAIN BOARD. If the thermistor tests good, the issue is likely a fault in the Main Control Board (PBA) (DD92-00042A). Locate the board (often behind the front kick-plate or on the side of the unit), carefully label and transfer all wire connections to the new board.
- REASSEMBLE AND TEST. Reinstall all components, slide the dishwasher back into place, reconnect all lines, and restore power to test.
